PROGRAMMATIC is the studio project of Laura Asher: an artist, engineer, and information designer based in the US.
PROGRAMMATIC's vision is to create works that harmonize traditional paper and textile crafts with computational techniques. The project seeks to redeem our cultural relationship with technology by harnessing it to produce meaningful, relatable goods and encourage the preservation and relevance of traditional craft techniques.
Aesthetically inspired by the modernist design movement of the early and middle 20th century, and its optimistic view of the relationship between humans and technology, PROGRAMMATIC's designs are data-driven and graphic, but reference the human hand. Often, designs are data visualizations transferred onto paper or fabric via a robotic plotter arm. Read the studio journal for more in-depth process jaunts.
